Privacy Policy

ExpiryMate is built to work entirely on your iPhone. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is kept, and the choices you have.

Effective date: October 13, 2026 · Applies to the ExpiryMate iOS app and its Home Screen widget.

The short version

1. Information you enter

You choose what to add. Depending on how you use ExpiryMate, the app may store:

Please avoid entering highly sensitive information, such as full document numbers or passwords, in item names or notes. Item names can appear in notifications and in the widget, which may be visible on your Lock Screen or Home Screen.

2. How information is stored

ExpiryMate stores your items in an on-device database (Apple's SwiftData). Photos are saved as image files in the app's private storage. Preferences are stored in the app's local settings. This information is protected by iOS app sandboxing and data protection.

If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, iOS may include ExpiryMate's data in those backups. Backups are created and managed by Apple and your device according to your settings; the developer has no access to them. ExpiryMate does not use iCloud sync.

3. Does anything leave your device?

ExpiryMate does not transmit the content you enter to the developer or to any server. The app makes no network requests of its own. Information leaves your device only in these cases, which are controlled by you or by Apple:

For App Store purposes, ExpiryMate's privacy label is "Data Not Collected", meaning the developer does not collect data from the app.

4. Notifications

Reminders are local notifications: they are scheduled by iOS on your device and are not sent through any server or push notification service. ExpiryMate asks for notification permission so it can remind you before items expire. You can allow or deny this, and change it anytime in iOS Settings > Notifications > ExpiryMate. If notifications are off, the app keeps working; you just won't receive reminders.

A notification shows the item's name and its expiration date, and may appear on your Lock Screen depending on your iOS notification settings.

5. Photos

When you attach a photo, ExpiryMate uses Apple's system photo picker, which gives the app only the image you select. The app does not request access to your full photo library and does not use the camera. A resized copy of the selected image is stored in the app's private storage and is deleted when you delete the item or replace the photo.

6. Home Screen widget

To show upcoming expirations in the widget, the app writes a small file to an App Group container on your device that only ExpiryMate and its widget can read. The file contains each active item's identifier, name, category name and icon, and expiration date, plus your "Expiring Soon" threshold. Notes, photos, and renewal history are never shared with the widget. This file stays on your device. Widget content may be visible on your Home Screen or Lock Screen.

7. Subscriptions

ExpiryMate Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription sold through the App Store. Payments, billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled entirely by Apple. ExpiryMate uses Apple's StoreKit framework on your device to read a signed confirmation of whether your subscription is active. ExpiryMate does not receive your name, email address, or payment information from Apple, and does not operate a server that stores purchase records.

8. Third-party services

ExpiryMate does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking software, and does not use third-party servers. It does not track you across apps or websites and does not sell or share personal information.

The app relies only on Apple system frameworks (such as SwiftData, UserNotifications, WidgetKit, PhotosUI, and StoreKit) that run on your device. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages; GitHub may process technical data such as IP addresses when you visit it, as described in GitHub's Privacy Statement. The website itself uses no cookies, analytics, or trackers.

9. Your control and data deletion

Because the developer does not hold your data, we cannot view, recover, or delete it for you, and we cannot restore it if it is lost.

10. Security

Your data is protected by iOS security features, including app sandboxing and data protection, which encrypts app files when your device is locked with a passcode. Keeping your device passcode-protected and updated helps keep your data safe.

11. Children's privacy

ExpiryMate is a general-audience productivity app and is not directed to children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), because the app does not collect personal information at all. Purchases made by minors are subject to Apple's Family Sharing and Ask to Buy settings.

12. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to its processing. Since ExpiryMate does not collect your information, you can exercise these rights directly in the app (by editing or deleting your items) or by deleting the app. For information held by Apple, see Apple's Privacy Policy. If we receive a support email from you, you can ask us to delete that correspondence.

13. Changes to this policy

If ExpiryMate's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the effective date above will change. Material changes will be described in the app's release notes before they take effect.
